Peter Dourvetakis

Peter Dourvetakis is a first-year law student pursuing a Juris Doctor at St. Thomas University in Miami, FL. As a law student from a family of Cuban immigrants, he is passionate about advocating for an easier path to citizenship for legal immigrants to the United States. He hopes to graduate from law school, pass the bar, and pursue a legal career helping immigrants in South Florida become a part of this great nation.

Peter graduated from Pembroke Pines Charter High School in Pembroke Pines, FL. He credits his time there as instrumental in his successes in postsecondary education. The academic rigor coupled with extracurricular activities such as the school newspaper and the baseball team prepared him immensely for college. He says that after four years at Pembroke Pines Charter High School, he was ready for anything that college had to throw at him.

Peter has a personal interest in the education system. His mother has been an elementary teacher in South Florida for over 20 years. He has seen firsthand how teachers, such as his mother, pour their heart and soul into their classrooms and students. Constantly working extra hours and spending their own money to enrich their student’s experiences, Peter believes an important part of improving the education system is to pay teachers a wage that they deserve. He believes they are grossly underpaid for the work they do in educating the future of America and a pay raise will help attract better candidates for teaching and help the American education system. He believes that we must take our teacher salaries seriously if we intend to improve the education system.
