Abril Lara
Abril Lara is a rising senior at Sewanee, The University of the South, and is earning her bachelor’s in International and Global Studies with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. She plans on being an English writing educator and an education administrator before returning to school for her Master’s in Business Administration.
As a first-generation student, she wants to bring more professional development resources to other first-generation students to be better equipped for post-high school success.
During her time at Sewanee, she taught 9th grade writing through Breakthrough Houston summer program. This propelled Abril’s passion for diversity and equity in the education system.
Abril’s recent plans include kicking off her teaching career in Mexico City for a year after graduating from Sewanee. She plans on utilizing this platform as a place where she can strengthen her ability to provide a high-quality education to first-generation students from underrepresented communities across the globe.
