Alex Stitch
I am an autistic person with a special interest in aviation and aerospace. In the future, I want to work on innovative, creative, and safe aircraft.
I attended Aurora Academy Charter School for middle school and DSST GVR for high school. I began my college education studying aerospace engineering before transferring to the University of Denver. I now study mechanical engineering with the support of the Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP). As an autistic person I struggle with aspects of social relationships and communication that previously led to academic difficulties. With the help of the LEP, I am learning to bridge that gap so I can better advocate my needs, build effective support systems, establish affirming social relationships, develop professionally, and complete my bachelor’s degree.
During my free time, I volunteer as a crisis responder on a text-based crisis line for LGBTQ2S+ individuals. Being an adult with multiple marginalized identities, I try to be the listening ear I wish I would have had while trying to navigate the confusion of it all.
I believe children deserve an affirming education where they feel safe to be themselves.
