As a Process Improvement Engineer, I use my chemical engineering degree to improve processes at my plant and identify opportunities for cost savings. My company works with catalysts used in refineries such as Shell, Exxon, and others.
After completing my education at Harmony Science Academy, I earned my degree from Prairie View A&M University, a Historically Black College & University. Attending a university where I found peers who resembled me allowed me to boost my confidence and recognize my rightful place in various industries, even those where African Americans are underrepresented. Project-Based Learning at Harmony played a significant role in shaping my aspirations and fostering my passion for science and mathematics, ultimately leading me to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
Investing more resources and funding into our education system will undoubtedly lead to positive changes, providing students with better opportunities for success through improved access to resources and dedicated educators. That’s why we must educate ourselves on policies/policymakers and do our best to put the best people in positions of power.
