Gelella Nebiyu
My name is Gelella Nebiyu, and for as long as I can remember, I have always been driven by empathy and a need for understanding. My interest in people has always been at the forefront of my work, and the relationships I have made along the way have shaped me into the person I am today.
I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and attended my charter school, High Point Academy, for 7 years before graduating from Grandview High School in 2018. I completed my Bachelors of Arts with a double major in Economics and Political Science and my Masters of Science in Economics and Social Policy at the University of Denver in 2022 and 2023 respectively. I am currently working as a Tax Examiner for the State of Colorado Department of Revenue.
Education has always been a top priority in my family, and I have been very fortunate in the academic opportunities afforded to me. However, my time at High Point Academy played a key role in my academic success by setting me up with the foundations for a good education in a safe and welcoming environment.
I hope to pursue a career in economic development, and I believe that the key to a successful city, state, or nation is a strong educational program that prioritizes the needs of their students and makes learning accessible. My time with Ganas has given me the tools and the experience necessary to advocate for that reality.
